Excellent.  I'm glad I read your comment because I was just dutifully completing tasks.  Didn't realize I could ignore them and the game goes in a completely different direction.

Art is wonderful.  Even being able to walk behind the computer is a nice touch. Showing how much coal you've put into the furnace is helpful as well.  Just shows you polished this thing to a high level.  More content and I would mistake this for a paid PS Vita game.  And that's a complement ;)

I pretty much failed most of those conversations :)

Maybe after winning or losing the contract for each person, show a little icon by their name so I know which ones I bombed on...and who was pleased with my little kid charm

Otherwise I love the idea of this.  Colorful and has good vibes.  And good job to the person who did the music...because that stuff I don't think I could ever do

"Small amounts of regular I" That's hilarious.  I might have to use that one :D

I got stuck on level 3 because I think I wasn't supposed to fall down until I collected that other magic item?  Otherwise, this was a really good one.  The soldiers running away is great.  Some good strategy trying to get close enough to place a ghost without getting shot.  I love it

This is a very difficult game to play if you are super nostalgic like me.  I barely made it to the end before getting choked up.  I pray that if this was influenced by a real-life situation, that it's been reconciled.

TMI: My brothers became worldly alcoholics and I stayed a devout Christian.  Those lifestyles don't mix well.  So this kinda hit home.

This was very well done.  On a technical point, I like how the memory items animate as you approach them.  The map was a great reminder of your progress.

I couldn't quite tell what happened at the end (I had to play in the browser, so it was hard to see), but it would have been nice if the brother is the one who gave you the map...or something.  I still would have cried...but I would have felt better about it ;)

This is one of my favorites so far

Very interesting idea.  I just had the ghost lens on the whole time ;)

Just 1 complaint: Some of the rooms were way too big.  I'd prefer a maze of hallways to a huge open room.  Maybe that's just me

Dude, that room looks like my dorm in college ;)

And now that I'm an adult with kids...my whole house looks like that and it feels pretty much like the same daunting task to get it cleaned up.  When it finally is clean, it's a breath of fresh air.  I think you nailed that!

Flying was pretty fun.  Pretty sure people would get suspicious by the way I flew my cloud around.

I know this isn't finished, but here are a couple ideas I thought of while playing:

  • Map city labels would be helpful
  • UI hint for cockpit controls.  I kept forgetting what to push to leave or change rain modes
  • some sort of indicator on the map (even just icons) for areas that are too dry or too wet maybe?  Just so I know I'm making some sort of impact on the map
  • If you are planning on more maps, farms love rain ;)  Also the Mayans needed to collect their drinking water from rain...so you if the timeline isn't a factor, you could have ancient sad/dry people who need your help

The controls reminded me of playing way too much Chip's Challenge.  It's simple and easy to figure out.

In hindsight, remembering the good times is uplifting...but while I was playing it, the whole time I felt like something was about to go horribly wrong :D  Maybe it was the dark background that made me feel like I was playing a horror game?

I enjoyed it though

Hitting the ball does feel really good!

One issue I had: Sometimes the character would try hitting the ball in the opposite direction I intended.  The assumption would be that it would always follow where I'm facing, but sometimes I would be facing right, and when I clicked to hit the ball, he would snap to facing left and I could only hit in that direction.

Otherwise pretty neat platforming and golfing at the same time ;)

This is a passion project, so I have at least some incentive to keep it going!

Probably spent too much time on those to be honest ;)

Unfortunately I couldn't get that working in time (and still don't know how to do it yet).

The plan was to have the background gray and dreary, but when people get saved/cheered-up the area around them looks more beautiful/colorful. (dead trees/flowers become alive, etc).  The illusion is that the sad people think the world is bleak and horrible until their eyes are opened to a more beautiful world.

Some day I'll figure that out... :D

It has been two weeks.  Some of use are still curious whether we got last place, or second-to-last

I get your frustration.  I've done a few jams and usually everyone who had an entry can vote...then all of the results show up right when the voting time ends.  This is the first I've had where we didn't do that, and had to wait for judges.  Your next Jam (which I hope you continue doing these) should be more straight-forward.

All good suggestions

Yeah, I would like to work on it some more.  Maybe I will join the next jam.  It'll give me a deadline to shoot for ;)

Visuals are nice and movement is solid.  Lot of potential here.

I didn't get very far however because the default controls are pretty rough.  Shift is particularly bad for Windows users because hitting it a few times in a row brings up the accessibility settings for sticky-keys.

I think there should be a way to skip all that intro dialog.  It's long, and only worth reading the first time.  (I was able to resume movement while dialog was still running by dashing FYI).  Hitting escape during the game just sent me to the main menu and I had to start over...no way to resume.

Also, on-screen prompts aren't accurate.  Interacting with a sign with "F" didn't work.  Climbing down the ladder didn't work with whatever buttons it showed on screen...so I didn't get very far

It may sound like I'm complaining a lot, but it's only a few little things really.  Easier controls, skipping dialog, correct screen prompts.  That's it :D

I love how the map shifts, but I didn't understand how to get out of the map view for a while (Y in case anyone is wondering)

Will like to see this when it's done!

This felt really good to play.  Only frustrating part was the high jump, where you have to stomp on the ground and spring up.  I think it was 1 too many actions.  Maybe consider going to a crouch and jumping as one smooth motion, rather than having to start mid-air.  I'm trying to think of a game that does this...but I'm drawing a blank :D  Banjo-Kazooie maybe?

Otherwise pretty cool so far

Movement felt pretty good.  Enjoyable moving around the map.

I really liked how things got lighter and darker, depending on what section you are in.  That looked good.  Background art was nice.  Big boss drawing was good.  (The black thing with the knife scared me because I didn't see it at first)

The idle animation is too jarring though, and the attack was pretty short.  I couldn't get past the large mushroom boss to save my life.  He was impossible to hit with the little attack distance and touching him would 1-hit me to death.  Sooo not sure what happens after that unfortunately.  Unless there's a trick to that?

In case you're still interested, I fixed the bug

In case you're still interested, it has been fixed.  Actually tested it this time

Well, I think you need to be ambitious about something during a game jam.  These are perfect times to try something that you might normally not take the time to do.  That's why I join them once and a while.  Gives you a deadline to try something.  Otherwise I'd never make anything ;)

Thank you!  Wanted it to be simple so a kid can play it.  Left, right, jump.  That's it ;)

Sorry about that.  The dino-riding part was my kid's idea, and is the best part.  I promise to have that fixed after voting ends.  Please try it again then.  I promise it will be worth the wait ;)

I can't figure out why I decided to change the pineapple the night before and didn't bother to run through it again.  Never assume your fix actually fixes it :D  Thanks for playing.  I'll have it fixed after voting ends.  Please try it again.  The second half is much better ;)

Thanks for trying.  Will have that bug fixed after voting ends.  I'm embarrassed.  Tested it a million times...then wrecked it last-minute :D

Sorry.  Last minute game-breaking "fix" :D  Will have that updated right after voting ends.

Oh No.  Sorry about the pineapple bug.  Something must have happened in my last build :(  Will update after the Jam.  Sorry about that.  Please try it afterwards.  I swear that was the best part :D

Much like tafode, I couldn't get it to work on PC or Mac.  Just wouldn't recognize my camera on either laptop.

His suggestion for using the phone was good though.  At least I was able to get it started...but tried several times and lost pretty much instantly.  Pack of little dinos moved maybe a few pixels when I was leaning as far as possible...and all got crushed in one go.  (probably the screen size didn't help me much)

Really ambitious trying motion controls though.  I don't think I could do it :)

The title screen was a great start.  I loved that.

The game controls are a little difficult though.  I had a hard time with slopes and jumping.  For example, I was stuck in the first "hole" in the tutorial and kept sliding back in.  Or jumping from a slope was a momentum-killer.

The animation is great.  The shadow effect behind the bushes was a nice touch too.

I played for 2.5 minutes before being rudely interrupted by children and didn't encounter any other dinos.  But I have to say...it was enjoyable just eating, drinking, and exploring.  Just living life as a little dinosaur.  Kinda relaxing.  I'll give it another go later to see how long I last

Played on phone, which is probably the way to go.  Enjoyable and simple to figure out.  Everything was responsive and polished.  Got 7K score...but I might have been lucky because I kept doing worse on each playthrough ;)

Only thing I would suggest would be to have an obstacle that REQUIRES the sliding.  For the rocks you can slide under, you can just as well just hop over them.  I tried to treat them as slide-only and it makes it more challenging for sure.

Good work

So I tried the game and have a few suggestions on how it could be improved.

The first time I played, I got destroyed.  Wasn't even close.  Second time, I defeated 2 guys and it was satisfying.  On the "fight screen" where it shows the hp of you and the enemy, I think it might be good to give a little more information there.  Maybe have the player on one side, and the enemy on the other.  And if there are any background stats (like attack, defense, etc), display those so I know if I should run away or stand to fight.

Oh...and when I went to the town and selected Temple, it crashed :(  I assumed it was supposed ot heal you maybe?  Maybe a little message on what that does would help

Music is great, btw.  Game was enjoyable once I started actually winning fights ;)

So sorry dude.  I thought I had a week to rate games.  Didn't realize it was over already :(

I'll play it anyway and give some feedback

I hear ya.  Initial idea was to have creatures that avoid you, until you find the right food they like.  Punching and kicking mean critters.  Realized toward the end of the jam that I have no idea how to do enemies :D  That'll be my goal for the next jam

Thanks for trying it!

I feel like this needs some more depth.  Everything on the right side of the page seems unnecessary/unrelated to the gameplay itself.  Or maybe I missed something.

Maybe include currency, energy levels, materials or something that needs to be balanced.  Otherwise it's just blackjack with a story attached to it

HOWEVER... if this is meant to be geared towards kids, the gameplay is perfectly fine then.  In that case I would spend time on art.  Some early kid games are super basic and this would actually work well for that as long as there is something cute, fun, flashy for them to look at

Got a chance to play it.  Pretty fun once I figured out the rules

I was a little unclear as to whether you get +1 reputation every turn for the Cafe or if it was a one-time boost (I think it's one-time, or probably should be if it isn't)

I had to use scratch paper to keep track of my maint costs and income.  I think you could remove the extra instructions on the Dinoplot sheet and allow for some space for notes.  (I have a bad memory so I had to keep counting the maintenance costs...eventually just wrote it in the margin)

Good job, I enjoyed it

"technically pterosaurs are not dinosaurs"

Haha.  Not many people know that!

One issue my kids noticed, if you lose (health goes to zero) and you try to play again, it seems the health doesn't actually reset.  So you get hit once and it goes to -1.  Try again, hit once and -2 and so on.

Other than that I like the look of this game.  Good controls.  Really liked the mom pterosaur clearing the way for her baby.  Super cute characters

Thanks but I'm not sure my textures are blurry enough, to be honest :D

Maybe when the game jam rating period is over I'll add more diverse obstacles.
