Yeah it will be a while still, but the print is under $5! (and PDF is free)

weird, here’s another one

Hey there! I left a reply to the last comment with a little status update.

This is really cool Matt! It reminds me of Fable a little bit. I’m currently working on a reputation system for Monolith 2.0 and, while it’s a bit different, I might have to rethink some things and toy around with riffing off of this framework.

Excited to throw this into my next Cairn campaign.

I’m in the midst of early writing, probably around 40% of the way on a first draft. I’m still not sure if I’ll do an early playtest version of the google doc before starting page layout. That way I can work out any issues and update the rules before committing to design and layout. Then I will need to figure out if I want to do no art, do my own art, or possibly go the kickstarter/backerkit route so I can pay for art!

That’s right!

Thanks for the message, I love hearing that! 🙏

Nothing official YET! But some Mothership modules with panic, like Ypsilon-14 or Year of the Rat might be good choices.

Yep for sure!

Very cool! I hope you saw the Korean version and found it helpful. I had someone volunteer to do that translation for free.

Thanks! What language do you speak?

To answer your question, the PDF and the printed version are the same.

Hello! Probably not for the 1st edition, it’s kind of a pain working with Kindle Direct Publishing, but I will definitely try to have an Amazon version available when I’m done with 2e!

No planned date, it's still heavily WIP right now. Unfortunately with a busy personal life, I get to work on this when I have time, and that's pretty variable.

It also depends on if I decide to try and kickstart the project to pay for art and editing, etc. If I try to do some mediocre art myself, that might slow me down. So we'll see!

Thanks! I used a combination of IBM Plex Sans and IBM Plex Mono

You could rule ongoing effects a few different ways. 10 minutes is a good baseline. It could also stay active until the PC needs to do something else, something significant happens, or the events dice rolls a result like “loss” or similar.

Hell yeah! Hope you have fun.

Just wanted to say how cool this collection of creatures is!

Good thoughts. Yeah I'm also a fan of how LH handled it...something to consider.

XD

Good points! The core rules will be the same, but obviously (if anyone has been following the rules devlog) other subsystems have been tweaks or reworked to various degrees.

Something I'll ponder...

I definitely have!

🤘 Thank you!

Thanks! 🚀

Love to hear that! Mechs are an idea I’ve thought about, but they could honestly be their own game/hack too. Lots of complexity there. There’s a lot of different scales for mech suits too. But it would be cool!

Same boat here, the goal is something a little less dominating while still allowing for horror compatibility!

Thanks for the support and feedback!

Thanks for the feedback! I will definitely be expanding the equipment list. I've never thought rules were necessarily needed for home brewing, but I do like the idea of some principles and/or direction for GMs to home brew their own equipment. At least so they can know the design intent before straying from them!

Yeah that might be a good option. I want to playtest it a bit to dial in how fast the ammo expends.

Quick missions would be a great thing to add. I'll have to play around with it and see how many pages that would add.

Wow this is some good stuff and a lot of amazing ideas to chew on! Thanks for sharing those thoughts.

Great feedback! And good notes on the Starship Combat, that was the biggest section I wasn't super happy with. The goal was a system in which everyone felt like they had their own role, but it got a little too crunchy, I agree.

Absolutely! I do Lulu now, but it would cool to expand those offerings.

I’d love to hear what your players have to say! The core game will stay the same, but right now a lot of the ship and travel mechanics are under scrutiny for rework! Any feedback on things folks like, or find lacking, would be helpful as I pinpoint what to preserve vs change.

Foreground Growth is exactly how I think of them, too. Like learning how to hotwire a speeder, or picking up some computer hacking skills, those are sort of fictional permissions you either have or don't. Then you can simply do those things, given the right circumstances and tools, and it's simply a matter of introducing an appropriate Save whenever risk or danger is involved.

Good calls! Yes 2e will definitely have bookmarking and hyperlinking galore. Right now I'm in the midst of thinking through the combat details, and getting that level of crunch right without being too much or too "lite". Sci-fi is a little trickier in that regard compared to fantasy.

And I've also been thinking about expanding the idea of tags. I'm curious what you like about the idea of tags. Skills are a tough nut in OSR games, especially Cairn-hacks. But I think I'm leaning towards a route where tags are listed for leverage, but any list I include will be considered "non exhaustive" so it doesn't come across as a list of limitations, ya know? That way any downtime training for advancing your character can include acquiring new knowledge, skills and technical expertise, etc. in the form of tags, without it being too fiddly and something like a modifier. More like additional fictional leverage. Still massaging that idea, though.

This is a great idea and something I will have to look into more.

This is all great feedback and exactly the kind of insight I was hoping to get! Thanks for sharing, I will definitely be taking all of this into consideration.

🙏Thanks!

I'd love to hear how it runs for you, have fun!
