you're very welcome!! :D
i'd love to!! i'll more than likely be joining the discord soon ^^
oh my goodness, i have so much to say!!
so... i've been an enjoyer of itch.io visual novels for over three years now. this is by far my favorite game i've played in all that time!! i absolutely adore everything about it: the artstyle is wonderful(it has a very distinct vibe to it, simultaneously cozy and a little surreal, a neat blend!!), the music is well-done, i really liked the performance the narrator gave, the writing was excellent, the minigames charming, and of course, our dear sleep paralysis monster is adorable :D
perhaps this is a strange niche, but i adore games where you talk to sleep paralysis monsters/demons within your home who end up being kind to you(provided that you're kind to them)!! this game slotted right into that for me ^^ i'll definitely be re-playing this, and keeping an eye on how things go with the project at large!! very excited to see what comes of this :)
p.s.: i named them selera ^^ gosh, i need to draw them sometime soon, they're such a cutie!! <3
spoilers for st4rlite's routes!!
very interesting game!! i was drawn in by the lovely aesthetics of this game, and i'm quite glad i stayed through it until the end. all of the characters are downright fascinating to me- none of them truly ring to me as being honestly bad people when you first talk to them. really, they have the potential to be, depending on how you interact with them at their most vulnerable- to me, at least!! they each begin largely as victims of their circumstances(as none of them have done anything unforgivably awful once we meet them), but can easily grow into cruelty if led astray.
getting to see and potentially understand some small part of their beings was a big highlight of the experience- their individual characters are fleshed out quite well!!
i found myself thinking of st4rlite as my personal favorite. by chance, i chose his route first, and ended up getting the low affection/absolution ending, and i was very curious to know more. i really enjoyed his character in particular- he has a very pleasant way of speaking about things, mixed with an underlying layer of emotion(anger, resentment, loneliness), as much as he might deny it. it's... understandable, coming from someone who went through something akin to what he did(not the whole "basically starting a cult" thing- the parental-inflicted trauma). it's sad to see him fall into the religious devotion(one could call it "obsession") like his father did. it makes me wish there was some sort of in-between for him- and the others, as well. some space, some outcome in the gray between absolution and punishment, obsession and apathy. kindness, understanding, and proper guidance(what an angel should provide) would do them all some good, i think. a pity that things don't shake out that way. one can only wonder.
anyways!! that's enough rambling- great game!!
ofc, it's no problem at all!! honestly i'd recommend finding somebody who has a mac to playtest the game if u would like to support a mac version in the future, but there honestly weren't too any bugs in this game, just that!! i definitely understand not doing that though, macs r superrrrr finicky :(
yay!!!! good to know that was intentional :) very cool lil reference!!
having some problems getting the mac version to work- i got stuck at these instructions: "3. Open the terminal. You will see something that looks like a text file. Next you will need to make sure that the Terminal is looking at the same directory as your TOUCHSTARVED download."
i didn't see the text that was supposed to be in the terminal, but instead the normal text for my computer: "Last login: Sun Sep 8 14:32:09 on ttys000
(my computer name)-MacBook-Air ~ %"
i looked within the files of touchstarved itself to try and find a different terminal type/file, but couldn't find one. i also don't know how to make the terminal look at the same directory as touchstarved. i'm not exactly a computer whizz, so i def need some help with this ^^'
hello!! so, so sorry to bother you guys, but i've found that the extended demo isn't functioning for mac(at least in my experience)! whenever i try to open the game, it gives an error message that the game "cannot be opened".
this has happened to me a couple other times with games i've downloaded, and it seems to be a different issue to the one you get where the system warns you that the game developer "cannot be verified"(which means that your system thinks it might be malware, it's usually mistaken), as with this issue, you can go right ahead and open up the game anyways. but with the "cannot be opened" error, i've yet to find a way to bypass it, unfortunately :(
interestingly enough, this didn't happen with the original demo! i'm not sure why the error wasn't present before, or why it is now, but i figured i'd let you all know!!
on a more positive note, i absolutely adored the original demo, and i'm super excited for the full release!! hope the rest of development goes smoothly :)
i believe that the characters on the sides of everyone's profiles(except kanon, i think??) are meant to be their closest friends, or the people they trust the most!! i'm not 100% sure if this is true or not, but it seems to be the most likely answer,,,
as for the flowers, i believe that everyone's flower seems to be associated with a flower meaning- i even looked them up myself!! a majority of them seem to be pretty accurate!! some of them don't make a ton of sense(lyle's in particular, though it may relate to his friend...), though that could just be because we looked at different sources :')
please be aware that i'm not well-versed in flower meanings(though i'm interested in learning about them), so some of these might be incorrect!! feel free to correct me :)
art - bouvardia: enthusiasm, versatility, the joy of life, celebrating life, happiness, and light-heartedness
pandora - daisy: new beginnings, rebirth, love, cheerfulness, beauty, purity, innocence, hope, fun, and affection
sei - purple hyacinth: sorrow, "i am sorry." a deep feeling of sadness and asking for forgiveness
kanon - marigold: power, strength, and light that lives inside of a person. also can represent positive emotions and energy, though this doesn't seem to match with kanon's character
echo - gladiolus: strength of character, remembrance, faithfulness, and moral integrity
forte - calla lily: the idea of life and fertility, and on the flipside, it's a well-known symbol of death. this might correlate to the comedy and tragedy masks, also being positive and negative opposites, linked by forte's theatrical ultimate
cyrus - snapdragon: deception (perhaps tied to the notion of concealment) strength, and graciousness. they were historically used as charms against falsehood
lyle - asphodelus: mourning, the underworld, death, peace after death. seems a bit ironic, considering... as said, it could be related to "his friend," who i'll keep secret for now for spoiler purposes. i'll talk about it in a separate message, if requested to
on other topics, aspholdelus is quite obviously linked to the underworld, so much as to be named similarly or after the greek middle afterlife: asphodel. it was made for people that weren't particularly good or bad- average people
missy - geranium: clever minds, ingenuity. as well as happiness, good health, good wishes, and friendship. the first two seem to fit missy best
ashley - white carnation: purity, sweetness, simplicity and genuineness. as well as "expressions of pure, wholesome love"
some of these flowers(the asphodelus, more specifically), don't have a lot on them, flower meaning-wise, from what i could find, so they might have additional meanings that i missed. let me know if you find any significant ones!!
