For whatever reason I can't get nightmare mode on my version. Do I need to download something or is it hidden by an achievement?

I really want to buy this game but when I run the can my pc play it, I keep getting on error about not being able to initialize vulkan video driver. I think my computer is compatible and I'm at the end of my rope so any advice would be good.

P.S- I'm really new to pc gaming so it could be a simple solution that I don't know about
