Share some pieces you've created with the tool here. Ill be posting some of my own artwork occasionally.

screenshots , ".Lion" files , or exports from any version are welcome ,  just keep the profanity light and the imagery TOS tasteful

Recent started working on this simple animation function for the up and coming update for Ascii Lion (version 1.8.2)

Begun: September 23rd 2025

you draw out your sequences in the blank boxes , set the length and the rate of the animation  and then chain it to the intended target. If youre not satisfied with the animation you can always click back on the modification block and revise the sequence .

You can chain all modified blocks together with the "A" key and confirm the selection with the left button of the mouse automating the animating process tenfold.

I have no clue when 1.8.2 will be complete , this feature was a spontaneous decision I still have to finish up the game engine , the sprite editor , and a few potholes Ive procrastinated since earlier updates  . when 1.8.2 is released itll most likely be the final update for years to come as itll have all the quintessential features set in stone.

certainly , I believe the links expire after a few days .

ASCII LION 1.8.0
A rain cycle test display which utilizes programmable objects and the Cyrillic language tileset

After a lengthy 8 months the anticipated 1.8.0 update is almost complete . There is so much to cover in this update log:

first and foremost lets discuss the game engine side of things , Ascii Lion now has a Gamemaker-inspired node based programming system (which natively supports the use of GML's scripting language for extensive and experienced users) , sprites are created with a simple 4x4 glyph system in which I dub "The Trinity Of Creation" within this trinity you are able to view collision data , active tiles , and tile numeric indexes.

Game engine aside there are other new features such as a the new external image loading system and controls , there's no more need for a proprietary "Source.bmp" file all image file names and thumbnails are automatically sourced from the same directory as Ascii Lion . Image x and y translations could be precisely adjusted using the scroll-wheel in combination with the shift (X) and control (Y) keys

There's now 7 glyph banks total , 3 of the primary , 3 of the inversions of the primary , and a cyrillic / Russian bank (accessed by holding down shift + "R" + and clicking the 3rd bank)

The CRT effect in the settings window has been replaced with an 'NTSC artifact simulation' toggle which contains many distortion patterns which effect the RGB color values of the matrix

Tile exclusion masks are now fully integrated into the clearing bar tab within the settings window. the clearing bar can now avoid certain exclusions such as locked tiles , unlocked tiles , or none .

There's also a new screens section which allows you to toggle between various states of the matrix giving you the ample opportunity to create interactive comics and multi-level games.

That's just about all I could think of for now , if I'm missing anything ill discuss it in the comments below . I've been actively working on this update since last year and have been so eager to share it with you all but 'Virgo-ist' perfection and my work-life have delayed its release tenfold. I cant give a definitive date but I'd like to say this update will be 100% ready by next month seeing how things are now finally rapidly progressing : essentially all I have to do now is repeat the code-base I've written for object one and append those modular features to the other five objects . Very exciting work , catch you guys soon much love - Lion (Christian M. L.)

March 15th 2025

Thank you ! The contrast and devitation from its initial release was quite unexpected (even for myself) , but I'm so glad to have where it is today : )

As you can see : the UI has been expanded on the right end of the matrix , this new section will be used for building your games / programs . Objects are bound to a node based programming system and can be tested in real-time . These 6 objects can be used for anything : shape generation , displaying text , displaying sprites , moving sprites around , setting timers , and much more .

I enjoy working with limitations , they promote logical creativity and outside of the box thinking and I have a good feeling most of you will be able to create some insanely complex pieces of art with this 6 object engine.

Each object placed and each matrix block painted will be completely independent to its own screen , there are a total of 10 screens (0-9) think of these like different levels of a game . you can have an intro , a title screen , the levels, and then finally a credit roll. Perhaps you can have 10 different panels to your ASCII-fied comic. The world is yours !

Excited to share this with you guys , much love - Lion

ASCII LION 1.8.0 / "R8" FEATURES:

(COMING SOON)

Game construction engine including a sprite editor , object logic assembly screen , and basic hex editor.

NTSC artifact simulation (with both jitter and texture parameters) (distorts color information on the matrix)

Major bug fixes.

Image import list (meaning ASCII LION does not require a file named "source.png" in its directory)

Parameter velocity / weight control (allowing you to fine tune variables at a comfortable pace with the cursor)

Better network implementation.

Bank inversion , giving you double the amount of characters to work with.

With the community ever-expanding I figured id put together a server for folks to come together and share what they're creating with the tool. I'll also post early alpha builds here when they're ready , check it out

After a lengthy coding hiatus I am now returning to the development of ASCII LION , the next revision will feature a basic (modular) game engine , UI expansion , parameter recall (during startup) , continuous work on internet connectivity functions , among other things .

Screenshots and test videos will be released soon - Lion

The long awaited 7th revision is now available .

ASCII LION 7 , What's New? :

(ULTRA FUNKY PSYCHEDELIC UPDATE)

• General improvements and UI changes

• Funky CRT-style feedback looping effect

• Completely redesigned file system

• More RGB sinewaves (within the parameter window)

• Area selection tool

• New overhead map for parameter window

• External image removal button

This psychedelic visual effect is just one of many funky features to come packed into the 7th release : the classic CRT feedback looper !
found in the "PRG/Programs" tab within the parameter window . I'm currently working on some slider to adjust the yaw, pitch,& roll of the effect. The 7th update of Ascii Lion is projected to be released sometime around Mid-May (Roughly) - Lion

• Audio Reactivity (which can be found within the modifiers page) (will require a "source.wav" - .wav only)
• Clearing bar / wipe parameters
• Finalized network implementation
• New file system / file array windowHail President Marbas - Lion

I just uploaded the latest .gmk (gamemaker project file) enclosed in a .zip for all to edit , dismantle , and expand the software further .
