This game really got me. There are not many (indiegame-) developers who really trying to make games as they were in the 90s, like from the gameboy or gameboy color for example with 8-bit sounds and a lot of pixels - i grew up with games of handhelds like dragon quest, mystic quest - but also pokemon red/blue. And for myself, its great to see those classic and old school games again, but from today's developers. The short demo was a really fun time and its sad, that i wasnt able to enjoy this great videogame on my old gameboy color, but at least, i am able to do it with the full version! Dragonyhm is an adventure game, with roleplaygame elements, set in a fantasy world of Archend. After a long period of time, where everybody where able to life in peace, an important dragon slayer went missing and its your time to shine, to find him, since its not only a hero, but also your father. The demo starts like some classics out there, your were sleeping in your bed and waking up. Everything outside is a mess, so you grab your spear and the journey begins. After saving people's villages, you asking around where your father is, but sadly, this mystery will stay a secret in the demo. The gameplay is very enjoyable and even better, if you have played the old school adventures and rpgs in the 90s. Its so lovely to see a lot of similarities like the turn-based fighting interface or the from screen to screen walking. Thats a huge nostalgic feeling breaking out of me and i am enjoying it! To get through the story or quests, you need to talk to everybody, there is, so far, no questbook or something like that, so you need to listen carefully what people are telling - the same for quests like bringing someone ore, deliver a package to someone's brother - so you wont miss something important. Its truely an old school-like game. So you roam around, asking people, going into everyone's house (and surely loot every chest your are gonna find there hehe) and looking out for even the smallest secret. The demo shows not that much about character-growth tho, but as it seems, we can learn new skills and abilities on our level-ups and also do magic stuff. Could be interesting if we are able to play with different playstyles the more we are leveling and learning. For now, the skills and magic i am learing are very impactful and fighting is rewarding, if you are defeating an enemy, who has completely buffed them in defense buffs, but you barely survived. It has a bit of tactical fighting and i love it. The same for the riddle ad puzzle-like dungeons. The lore and the worldbuilding was, so far for the demo, really well made. After fighting and defeating the enemie in the tutorial, everyone is cheering up, truely the dragon slayer's son. Its enjoyable to read every single dialogue. The controls, the interface, but also some quality of life things like fast-travels are well made and its great to have them! For the graphics and the sounds: If you love retro gaming, no matter what console or style, you will love it. The 8-bit sounds are so well crafted and the pixel-graphics are really something special. Both combined are feeling like i have traveled back into the 90s and playing a great adventure. All of that are sounding pretty great tho, i am honest, i am looking forward for the full release. But i have at least one point, which i really wanna see in the full release. Please dont let the lore, the worldbuilding and the story overall grow into the void. We are the son of the dragon slayer and i really hope, we will be someone very powerful!
