For what it's worth I think these assets are amazing and its worth it to figure out how to use them effectively even if they don't align to a perfect grid. besides you can always keep it on a grid and have tiles with air in them, its not a big deal since unity allows per tile custom collisions.

I know this is a year late but what I do in my projects is scale the damage based on def instead of just subtracting.

here's the formula for my basic attack: (a.atk*(a.atk/(a.atk+b.def)))
