i figured it out. you go to rpgmakerweb dot com slash run-time-package and download the 2003 one. it opens fine now. you probably already had it as a dev

yeah, that gives me "RPG Maker 2003 RTP not found." (which is why i thought i needed to use EasyRPG to play it)

i've read online that you can add FullPackageFlag=1 to the end of the .ini file but then i get "Cannot open SystemC file."

getting lots of "CharSet not found" errors when i try to play this with easyRPG, since it seems to have been made in the 2003 version. i see the sprites in the directory but all character models are replaced with blank sprites. any ideas?
