Welcome to this year's Mega RPG Jam!

If you have any additional thoughts or questions, please feel free to post them below!

I'll do my best to respond to everything in a timely manner.

Ayyyy, it's back.

Would we be okay to continue prior projects from the Micro-Jam (theme permitting if we're gunning to be #1 :P) or would you want us to start completely fresh?

Host (1 edit)

Feel free to continue off of your Micro Jam entry! Even if it doesn't match the theme, it's a great opportunity to expand on your past work.

Awesome! It'll be a fun exercise to expand and learn an actual typesetting program.

I'm a bit confused by the tabletop aspect of the Game Jam (its my first time) Would it be possible if I made a Tabletop game within a game engine?

Host

Sorry for any confusion!

This jam is targeted at pen and paper role-playing games (and not video games).

All entries must be in .pdf format, so entries made in a game engine will not be allowed.

I'm slightly confused! Do we make the games in a game engine? It says here: " All entries must be submitted in . pdf format. ". What do you mean by table-top?

Host

My apologies for any confusion!

No video game submissions are allowed, so making an entry in a game engine isn't recommended.

For more information about what a tabletop role-playing game is, feel free to check out this Wikipedia article.

ok, thank you very much!!!

My experience with table top has been totally online. I have used a few tools out there with groups but mostly roll 20 recently. Is it cool if we use Roll20 as a testing grounds for our RPGs?

As long as your final entry is in .pdf format, using Roll20 (or any other online tools) to test your game is totally fine!

Edit: I've gone in and added Roll20 to the Useful Resources thread as well.

I’ve never done this before (for a tabletop idea) but I’ve been contemplating one for a long time. Does the game have to follow the theme or can I jump right in with my idea when the event starts?

Host

Your game is not required to use the theme, so feel free to jump in once the jam starts! That being said, “Use of Theme” is one of the voting categories and itch.io does not make it possible to opt out of them.

Are there any restrictions on making hacks of other games, like for say Lasers and Feeling?

Host

Hacks of existing games are totally fine as long as you follow these guidelines:

  • Your hack should be its own thing (do not directly copy text from the source).
  • Your entry should mention the game that it’s a hack of.

Feeling a tad bummed that I won't be able to properly start on this until tomorrow morning. It begins at 11pm for me, so given I'm just after a hard days work I know I'm gonna be sleepy barely an hour after starting. lol. Ah well, I'll just have to work extra hard tomorrow and sunday and hope for the best! I've been going through a whole load of art I've done ages ago and have decided some of them will work find for illustrations. I hope that's alright, the actual writing will be started after the event begins, but as a one person team I hope no one minds if I used old art I've done (or previously commissioned for other reasons) as the main artwork for my tabletop game (who knows, sometime in the future an artist might like it so much they'll offer to do new art for me. lol)

I answered a similar question about art in the What Kind of Pre-Work Is Reasonable? thread.

Using existing art is ok! Making art specifically for the jam in advance of it is not, however.

excellent. sorry. I havent had a look in all the conversation things yet or I would have already seen that. lol. I am so looking forward to this!

No worries at all! Best of luck!

been busy hopefully i will have tonight and tomorrow to write up my ideas, currently thinking of creating a game where the players are villians :D. That works with the theme yes?

Host

Feel free to use the theme in any way you like! Good luck!
