And yes, there's ways to cheese the boss. But a nice tip for dealing with them is always moving and noticing yours surroundings since they rush to your last location. So the stage can be used to your advantage and it was setup in a way to do so.
So keep moving, try to use the scenery around you and only hit the enemies when you're sure you can land at least two hits. o/
