What did this game do well?

The general game feel is very good, the player control is very intuitive. My favorite game of this week! I actually kept playing it even after class to try and get a higher score. My favorite part is how it gets harder over time with the shapes rotating and speeding up towards the player. I also liked how the player moves up and down to accommodate for how the game could only be one button and I think it actually enhanced the engagement of the game. Amazing animation. It was entertaining with such a minimal design and game control. I liked the game idea as well, very creative. Very unique game idea and very engaging. I appreciated how the speed progressively increases. This was my favourite game from week 1. It did the ‘single input’ job perfectly. The twist on geometry dash to an oscillating player that has to match enemy colours by changing the colours of the enemies themselves was a brilliant move. The game feel elements (not even a part of week 1) were amazing as well, like the particle trails, camera shake, explosion particles, sound effects, etc. Really well done.

  • Really interesting concept
  • I had fun playing the game even though the I’ve played this kind of game before, because the twist was unique
  • Although graphics were simple, the minimalist and retro style were really good
  • Sound effects contributed to the feel of the game Very interesting and addictive gameplay loop alongside the game being relatively simple. Good use of color and sound effects to make player actions and gameplay clear and full of feedback. The game tracks user score accurately and keeps track of high scores.

======================================== What could this game have done better?

  1. The can possibly let player know ahead of time when the color of the shapes will be changed, like in many action games, the game will warn the player before some power attacks. Maybe add a ‘color change countdown’.
  2. If we have more different size of shapes represent different points, the game would be better
  3. The collision is too strict, maybe make the white shape collision more friendly and make the dark shape collision less strict , like the difference in Ana shooting enemies and allies in Overwatch. This is very small but I think the box colliders could be a little more forgiving because at times I couldn’t tell how close I was going to be to hitting a shape. Adding more colors as the level increase will be interesting Provide a little tutorial in-game on the general premise of the game. There is not much this game could have done better. It is a near perfect attempt to accomplish a single button game. The only suggestion could potentially be the issue with placing enemy obstacles of different colours placed very close to each other. Sometimes it wasn’t possible to immediately change colours from an adjacent colour-mismatched enemies which resulted in losing the session. However this is nitpicking since it’s a rare case when this happens, and the enemy placements are likely randomized and procedurally generated. It would need some more work to actually be perfect in creating the right enemy patterns. I still consider this to be a pedantic improvement which isn’t necessary at all.
  • I thought the game was pretty good as is
  • Personal preference, but I was not a fan of the screen shaking because I thought it was distracting Adding an effect when the player loses and ability to customize colors would be nice features.
