Yes, I'm sorry but RPG Maker VX Ace is required to play the game. There is a free trial of it that you can download, which will hopefully run the game file. Again, sorry for all the hassle.
You don't need the full RPG Maker VX Ace, you just need the RTP. You can get that for free here:The game worked just fine for me with that.
