I think this is a "deal breaker" and I understand for you. Here some tips(making game) if you want:
+ Game always need a goal for the player to do
+ The gameplay should not a loop, If it is then each loop add something specials
+ Add sound effect (+ music) for better immersive
+ Game should have a menu (or a pause screen) for the player have time to prepare
+ If the game has a lot of "control stuff", you should add tutorial
