Porting the Sea from New Horizons to ERAS II

Hi, great work for both of the mods. I just couldn't help but notice that, in comparison, ERAS II 's water is way less dynamic and realistic than Maelstrom New Horizon, sometimes downright ugly depending on the time of day. Is there a way to port the sea from MNH to ERAS II?

On a more minor note, MNH also has immersive small touches, like crew noise and longer-lasting smoke when firing cannons. Is there a way to have them on ERAS II, as well?

Is there a list of the entire differences between ERAS II and the most recent New Horizons?

I've always played ERAS II, only because I've been told that it's the most immersive with plenty of features compared to the others, but I never got to seeing the full list of differences between the 2.

Main difference for me is the interface. While I enjoy playing NH more due to how much more "immersive" the sea experience is (lingering cannon smoke, noisy deck, dynamic-ish waves), I always miss the more intuitive interface of ERAS II. Not qualified enough to comment on other gameplay differences, since I almost always play on Arcade difficulty.

MK drives decisions of how ERAS will look/feel, and Mirsaneli makes decisions on the NH mod; they have widely divergent tastes and I highly doubt MK would agree with the sea/ambient changes to make ERAS look/feel like NH.

I also have no intention of trying to document all the differences between ERAS and NH, because I have never played NH and do not intend to devote time to do so just to document how it might differ from ERAS.  ERAS is based on COAS and NH is based on POTC, which are quite different from each other, and that is as far as I'm currently able to describe.

COAS was based on the 2.8 version of the engine, which handled particle effects for cannon smoke much differently than POTC and the 2.0 version of the engine.  I did obtain the 2.0 version of particle effects and allowed NH to keep that older way of doing them.  Similar for the character dialogs, with 2.8 removing the "head animation" vs. the 2.0 dialog which contained a head portrait of the NPC.

It is possible to change anything in ERAS to match NH, but it is not trivial and I can guarantee that ERAS will not be changed by us to match NH; they will remain different.

I understand. Thank you for taking the time to reply!

I have made some Eras II modifications to match Maelstrom New Horizons sea and weather. You can find that zip file in Buccaneers Reef Discord forum. But keep in mind that, as ChezJfrey pointed, it will most likely never be a part of official Eras II build, since it is developed and maintained by MK, and I have no intention to interfere into MK's projects. The zip that I made is unofficial and just for fun.

Thanks for letting me know, but I can't seem to find the file. May I ask for your username on the server so that I may narrow the search down?

my username is Mirsaneli

Oh my, thank you for your work Mirsaneli! I've downloaded the updates from September to November, as well as the Eras_mods_v3 zip. Will that be enough?

Whoops, the updates were for NH. Apologies! I am new to how the search function of Discord worked, and didn't notice that the channel it was pointing at during my search was New Horizons. No harm done, though!

Using the Eras II modification and it works amazingly on my new save! Thank you!

You are welcome!

I downloaded it and it doesn't work, so probably it's not this. Please PM me if you could.
