Gloomsday is a quaint platformer, following a wizard who uses the energy around themself to cast spells.

I admit, during my first playthrough, I felt that this unique mana resource management system was clunky and off-putting. This is based on my experience playing numerous  fantasy RPG's with more traditional resource management systems (skill cooldowns, mana bars, rune systems)/

However, after playing for a while, I slowly adapted to the environmental resource management system and my opinion has changed. The resource management in Gloomsday is fresh in the genre. It has a moderate skill floor, which asks you to pay attention to your positioning in space and time to optimize the amount of arcane energy needed to increase your spells damage and castability. This also gives the space for rich technical gameplay and a meaningfully high skill ceiling.

While this is only the demo version, it seems that  there is a promising future for Gloomsday, as it carves out a niche in the well-established fantasy RPG genre.

I can't wait until more levels are released. And if you get tired of dying on expert mode of the demo, you can always  sit in the main screen and vibe to the dystopian post-fantasy beats.

Demo rating: 8/10
