Game seems to crash on my laptop after a certain point in time or when Vikings invade. Can't grab it on steam cos work laptop so limited in what I can use - any fixes?

It's definitely just Vikings. I've played on Peaceful with 0 issues. It can't be their numbers - I've got well over 800 citizens, and before I lost my save due to autosave overwrite was over 1000 citizens. Is the game simply not being updated to the same degree as on Steam or something, so it's missing out on stability patches?
