This is actually the first time someone reported issues with the brightness setting, I will need a little more info to understand what could be the problem, for example: what gfx card are you using? Do you have HDR enabled? (either real HDR or the fake windows 11 one) Do you use any external software that modify the screen? (eg: f.lux or similar)
The more you can tell me, the more it will help me.

I'm playing on a GTX 1050 /i5 /8GB gaming notebook without SSD. It's a weak PC, but the game runs perfectly with no crashes on high graphics. I can't talk about HDR, but the lighting is beautiful and as it doesn't have ray tracing I think it's simulating it. I do not use external software. The brightness adjustment just doesn't work in the middle... either it's dark, or it's too bright, both of which make it impossible to see properly.
