His inner thoughts and everything he says just screams im a gloomy brooding asshole.. How someone like that ever had a girlfriend in the first place is a miracle in itself.
I'm not sure how far into the game you've gotten but in a few events it has been said that he wasn't like that before he had one. Things turned out that way after he and the girl had broken up, to say that it hit him like a sack of bricks would be an understatement.
Not that it gives him a pass or anything, mind you. Just trying to help you understand why it is things are like that for MC.
