That's so awesome to hear! I love the inclusion of the minifigs. I've done the same with my son using his Minecraft LEGO sets.
And if auto-hit worked for your table then it sounds like a great way to play it. I know a lot of games do that these days and I think it's a great way to keep momentum up. Also, good skill to learn in that it's OK to run away!
