Nice idea! I'm not aware of it being done before, usually when hero/villain stories are subverted its about a minion or a villain protagonist.
I guess the next thing would be to make the destruction around you generate more naturally. i.e. seeing the fighting and following after it without getting hurt yourself maybe.
