Good game with an interesting lore that could be pieced together depending on your own interpretation of it, the speed of the lava does take away from the little messages scattered around, but overall it does the job of feeling like a retro game.

I'm not sure what to think of this game. The potentially emotional messages scattered throughout the level are muffled by the fact that you don't get much time to stick around and read them, since you're desperately running from the rising lava. The controls are fine as is, but since you don't get introduced to the level objects like levers and chains in a safe environment, you need to spend a bit of time figuring out what they do on your first playthrough — time that you can't afford to lose. Also, I know that it's supposed to look like an NES game, but the graphics don't really reflect that — if anything, they look more like what you'd see on an Atari game, or maybe a fantasy console.

Also, this doesn't really factor into my final score, but I don't like how you don't get an option to walk away from the ledge you're asked to jump off of... well, outside of closing the game then and there, that is. The emotional impact of the ending would be stronger if it was your choice, and if you could have chosen to keep living despite the hardships your character suffers.

Your opinion about the speed of the lava and how it affects the time you have to read the dialogues is quite accurate, and I also like the suggestion of moving away from the ledge. I also understand your point about the visual section and I agree, it doesn't seem very NES haha. Thank you very much for your feedback  :D

When the lava first started rising I thought it was a very cheap death, as I didn't know there was going to be danger so I was taking my time reading the notes and looking around. Anyway, the second time since I knew that I had no problem with the rest of the platforming challenges, which I thought there was a nice variety to.

I'm not sure if the dialog/theme of the game is supposed to be pro-suicide? That is the message I took away from it, which is a bit upsetting to say the least.

Visually it's very simple but the CRT effect adds a nice retro flare to it. I couldn't say that it particularly reminded me of any specific era of gaming though.

Thank you for sharing your opinion of the game, I like this about Jams, I use them to learn and improve, and through comments like yours I can better notice my mistakes to correct them and not fall into them in the future, thanks bro

Absolutely agree, that's a great reason to do jams. Keep at it!

This is really difficult. Once I started realizing there was going to be some character building, I stopped to read the notes, but then I died to lava, so I ignored them going forward. Eventually died to the rising lava after I figured out what the objective was and I started opening doors, but the controls on climbing the ropes seemed inconsistent. All that said, I really like how you tried emulating the old school CRT TV look with like the convergence being warped and the static. Really nice touch.

Thank you very much :D, reading the feedback I realize that I actually made a mistake with the speed of the lava, I'm sorry about that, I'll fix it.

I don't know if you got this bug but i got a bit of the way through and when the lava caught up to me, it didnt kill me and i got stuck without being able to see anything and not able to die.

Developer

I know what bug you are talking about, I apologize for said error that possibly made the game experience worse, I'm going to try to fix it. Thank you very much for the feedback :D
