I don't know when you last played but yes, the mood system is still there and will still be there, although I have added a couple of things like items so that girls never get angry (although not all of them, yet). Anyway, for a safe run, you have the normal or easy mode, the hard mode is only for those who want to suffer in exchange for seeing 0.1% of extra content.
On a side note, hard is going to be disabled for new players from the next version and won't be enabled again for a long time (it doesn't affect if someone play the Patreon version or if already had a hard game started).
