Hello and welcome to the Legacy of Kalevala message board!

I am Chainedlupine, the developer of the original flash game.  If you have any questions, feel free to ask away!

you're still alive right?

Developer

Y up, I'm still here.  *checks pulse*  And breathing, too!

silence brand

so when is this going to be finished then?

Developer

I'm still working on getting the first milestone completed, which is an alpha version.  Once I am done with that, I will be able to give you a better idea.

can I test it once it's done plz?

so...What's the status? any big news?

Well, I just played Legend of Kalevala again after about 6 years. I'm happy to say I enjoyed it as much as the first time (and I finally got that blasted good ending). Sad to see that this project doesn't seem to be ongoing anymore, but it's comforting to know that the expansion wasn't a hollow promise. Kudos to you, Chained, and I hope you''ll pick the project back up one day!

Hello all!  I apologize for the slowness of replies.  Life has been very chaotic as of late, but has finally settled down into a routine.  I am still working on Legacy.

I'm hoping to have more stuff to show for it soon!

Woah, that’s awesome to hear! I know that this is expanding the game, but how much longer do you think it’ll be once all the new levels are added?

Always here if any sort of fan-feedback is needed, and I hope all goes well!

Developer

I just posted a devlog which will hopefully answer those questions. :)

Actually, that does help. Thanks a ton!

Hey there, I played Legend of Kalevala probably over six years ago, and I just wanted to say it has been a big influence on my own artistic endeavors! :D I was JUST googling to see if anything had happened to it, and look what I found!! I just wanna say thanks and that I am PUMPED to see it expanded. Are you going to be keeping the music the same? The second mountain theme is a KILLER tune, I'd be a li'l sad if it wasnt there! If not, you rock anyway. Thanks for creating and now (hopefully) remastering such a profound little game :)

Awesome!  I am always glad to hear when people are inspired by the things I create.  I get the same inspiration for others, and it's great to hear that the web of inspiration continues...  Hopefully forever!

I still need to talk to the musician.  He's given me implicit carte-blanche before on what to do with the music, but the game engine I am using cannot directly play his original music format.  I would love to re-use the music but first I need to figure out a way to get it to work as originally intended -- I don't want to just transcribe it to a streaming format, but it might be necessary, and I want to make sure the original musician is OK with this.

Hey!

I am Alldreamer from Kongragate, I still love your game to bits (Oh, how I like to say that about video games). I just found this "new" project and I cannot stop my blood pressure rising, I've found a diamond!

There is one wish I have about the new game that I still could play as a "dog". For some reasons better not mention I find it not so certain. Dogs, and dragons, mean to me a lot and getting to play either of them is a rare gem indeed.

Do you have some social media page where I could easily see any updates? Have you considered a Kickstarter? This project have been so silent that some kind of advertisement couldn't hurt, especially now as You actually need the game to sell some to survive.

Finally, I have always been curious why the world name is Kalevala. The story or people in the world do not have much to do with that epic, or did they? I am Finnish and have read all kinds of stories based on it, but everyone's experience is different.

Be it what it is, I will try to find out when the game releases and save it to my Golden Box to keep there forever and ever.

The game does take themes from the Kalevala, but one thing I felt I really dropped the ball on was explaining how it tied in with the story.  It's something I will definitely be resolving for the new release.

As for social media, I've never been one for that.  You can find my account on Twitter but I haven't updated it in a long time. :)   Kickstarters and other crowd funding, I have considered.  But I was unsure if there was enough interest to even warrant asking for that.

I'm really bad at advertising and I work on my games alone when I have free time/ability to commit, which tends to make my release schedule very slow.  (Legend was released in 2012, and before that my last big game was released back in 2005!)  I would like to expand that effort but it's only been until recently I've been entertaining such an idea.

I'm glad you enjoyed the original and are looking forward to Legacy, though.  That means a lot to me;  Honestly, I make these games for my enjoyment, really, but it also makes me feel so good to realize that others enjoy them just as much (if not more).

Hey, glad to see this game given the glory it deserves!

Just wondering, would you like any help with creating/polishing sprites?

Hey there! I played this game's predecessor about five years ago, back when I was still in high school. I'm very much inspired by it, even today, and I just wanted you to know that. Wherever you are and whatever you're doing, thanks for giving us the ability to play LoK.

I have some questions about the new game, although nothing specific, and I also wanted to see if you're still kicking. Besides that, hope you're doing well and having fun out there.

Obviously not Chained Lupine—I’m in the exact same boat as you, haha. Made a similar “are you alive?” post about two weeks? ago, and no response so far. We can only hope.
