Of course you would release a horror game an hour before I start streaming. And of course I drop my plans and stream this instead.
Really well done, Lixian. You can definitely see how much effort you put in to actually learning the engine and working with it to create a horror experience. I haven’t watched your video yet but I’m about to.
I really enjoyed this. I found the story behind it funny, and it was a nice touch voicing it yourself. It meant that I started with something familiar before being thrown into it. It has a similar vibe to Chillas Art games, which distract you with some menial task so you almost forget you’re playing horror, which makes the scares that much more effective.
I have a couple of notes of things that I noticed, but otherwise it was extremely enjoyable.
1) Graphics settings are definitely required, especially brightness. The living room didn’t complete for me on the checklist for a long while and it was because there was a stain hidden in the darkness that I was completely unable to see. Obviously the darkness of the house is what makes for the horrifying experience, but a way to make it a tiny bit brighter, or just not having that particular stain hidden there, would be an improvement.
2) There should really be an in-game menu where you can make some changes as you play. Sometimes you don’t know what settings you want until you’re actually in the game, so being able to pause and alter settings to your likeness is a must. Somebody else mentioned mouse sensitivity as well, which would be a bonus.
That’s my only complaints though! Very fun game, loved the multiple endings, unlocking the ‘Fast Mop’ option made me giggle. Definitely scared me a couple of times, and I may have cussed you out one or two times as a result while I was playing it, but it was all done with love.
I can’t wait to see more in future!
