Well.....here we go.

I haven't done a game jam since last year's Global Game Jam.  It was a great experience and I loved the creativity and collaboration with everybody there at my jam site.  But the last year unfortunately presented its challenges with keeping up with my game dev learning.

I don't do this full-time - I have a family and I work full-time in the ad tech industry.  So getting every hour I can to keep pushing my learning in Unity and C# was precious to me.  At some point, it just became too much (along with some health matters to attend to) that I put it on the back burner for a while.

2019 is here.  I already missed this year's Global Game Jam.  But then I got the email about this year's My First Game Jam.  I figured even though it's technically not my first game jam, I should treat it as such to reset myself and get back into what I'm passionate about learning and crafting.  I won't promise it will be great (and I know that's not the goal of these game jams) but I strive to pursue my passion - as we all should be doing.

As the theme was just announced to be love for this jam, for some reason "Love in the Battlefield" sprung to my head.  I have no concept yet of what that will entail,  but it's something that came to mind after watching some old videos of Undertale.  If you don't remember it, it's a turned-based RPG in the 8-bit aesthetic but you don't always have to kill your enemy.  You can reason with them.  You can spare them.  You can also show your love.  I'd like to see how I can turn that into something I've practiced a lot in with a 2D shooter.

So back to the Unity engine I go and whatever other assets I can spruce up.  I hope you'll enjoy this journey with me over the next 2 weeks as I get back into the swing of things with game dev.

yeah even if it's not your first game or jam we really like to have a space where you can feel free to really just take some time to learn. i'm digging the title so far so i'm excited to see what you come up with to match it!
