What is the system behind the spell casting based on? I am trying to do one for Victoria (Fire Bolt) and no matter what I do, it seems my result is completely random. I have tried staying in the lines, but the score is all over the place. I've tried for speed and still the score seems random. I can't figure it out. It seems much more difficult / random than the entrance exam system.

Spellcasting is based on timing only. Wait until the magical symbol is filled up, and then click. Wait too long, and the symbol resets again and you get a low score. Clicking a split second before the symbol is filled up completely works best for me.
As far as I can tell, tracing the symbol as quickly and as accurately as you can is used for the entrance exam only. It's a shame, because I think that's actually a cool little mini-game and more interesting than the timing based one.
