I wound up losing my previous saves I don't know why I didn't do anything special I'm on android I had to spend 20 minutes of tapping the screen to get to chapter 3 lol
1) If you update and overwrite the app, you won't lose saves. You probably uninstalled old app and installed new update.
2) You can use Skip with Unseen Text enabled in Preferences.
