Im stuck in the 'jumping headfirst' tutorial... Any chance you could give more info on how to do the upward boost?

Sure! The basic concept is first running into the front wall, then, once you reach your peak (height wise), jump again while holding the back key, and repeat this for the front wall again (once you reach your peak in sliding up the back wall, jump while holding the forward button)... so on and so forth!
