It was the next day and Hawks was coming to visit Ru in the morning-he was about to fly in through the downstairs window when he heard Mother Gothel's voice along with Ru's-it made him pause, hovering a bit below the window outside of view.
?: "Oh, you know I hate leaving you after a fight-especially when I've done nothing wrong-"
"Um-Actually mother-a-about that I-"
?: "Abereru I hope you're not going on about the stars again-"
She refused to shorten his name-
"Floating lights-and yes-I-I mean sort of-l-leading up to that-"
?: "Because I really thought we were done talking about this-"
"I-It's just-I-I think if you would just listen you'd realize that...I-I can take care of myself-"
?: "You're nothing but an insolent child-"
"B-But I'm 18-"
?: "Abereru we are not having this conversation-"
"B-But if you'd just listen-"
?: "Abereru, enough-"
"P-Please, I just want to see them-"
"ENOUGH WITH THE LIGHTS, ABERERU! YOU ARE NOT LEAVING THIS TOWER-EVER!"

His bottom lip quivered, looking away as he blinked back tears.
?: "Ugh-great...now I'm the bad guy-"
"quietly ...What I meant to say, mother, is just that-....I know what I want for my birthday now-"
?: "....And what would that be."
"Just-new paints...l-like the ones you brought me when I was younger-"
?: "That's a very long trip Abereru-"
"I-I-I'm sorry....I just...thought it was a better idea than the stars...."
She sighed
?: "Fine. If this is what it takes to make you stop with these foolish notions.... then fine."
"T-Thank you...."
?: "And Abereru?"
"Y-Yes?"
?: "No more charting the stars, understood?
"But I-"
?: "No. More."
"...Yes mother...."
He came back a little while later with her bag and handed it to her. She gave him what could only be described as an extremely fake smile of motherly love and kissed his forehead.
?: "Are you sure you'll be alright?"
He sighed, smiling a bit
"I know I'm safe as long as I'm here."
She gave a satisfied smile, stroking his hair.
?: "I love you very much dear."
"I love you more..."
?: "I love you most."
