seems like the rpg maker folder has been created with the MZ version in mind only (48x48) ... u_u?

Which version of RM are you using ? VX maybe ?
using both, XP and VX for styling, MZ uses dimensions of 48x48, while XP and VX uses 32x32.Regards :3
