Edit 11/08/2021: Post mortem is up ---> https://tofu-sheets-visual.itch.io/the-wendillon-project/devlog/312759/devtober-...

Hi there!

I'm just a way too ambitious girl that loves to make visual novels (and RPGs) with voice acting! When I came across Devtober, I found it the perfect opportunity to bring back my attention to one of my special projects, The Wendillon Project. This is actually meant to be a birthday gift to a friend of mine, which I announced to her last year, and is an anthology that contains 4 unrelated visual novels. For this jam, I am simply going to focus on the first two in the project - "Chance It!" (which is closer to being finished) and "Fateful Encounter".

All she wanted to do was get some sleep…

Del's night was already ruined by the stack of paperwork her boss dumped on her last minute. If that wasn't bad enough, things take a bizarre turn when she meets a guy that keeps throwing dice in order to make decisions and a gun-wielding shota that can't talk.

The path that Jun takes will ultimately decide the kind of story that shall unfold.

Will he run away from home, and succumb to following the mysterious girl in white onto the train?

Will he chase the black cat during the autumn festival?

Will he accept a job from the weird technology geek he met on the street?

Or will he remain by the side of his childhood friend?

If all goes well, CI will be ready for my friend to play by her birthday on the 31st. If it goes extremely well, a demo of FE may also be available.  Read about the full project here; https://tofu-sheets-visual.itch.io/the-wendillon-project

It's a really silly war my friend and I have, trying to "out gift" each other for our birthdays. And I am just so excited to see how my  friend reacts when one of these projects finally drops, and if a demo for the second can drop as well, then that would be doubly awesome!

Here at Itch, I'll be posing occasional long devlogs throughout the month on the game's main page, and in this post I will link them whenever they are up with a brief rundown of what the post talks about.

For today, I started really simple and make a wordpad document called "scene dumps" where I literally just write random scenes I plan to include. I had already outlined all of "Fateful Encounter" and I have so many ideas for scenes that I am not at yet in the main script, so I just write them out in the document and will fix the quality later when I arrive to that scene. I found this method super effective when I co-wrote "Piece by Piece" a horror visual novel for Spooktober VN Jam last year with another friend of mine and I feel embarrassed I didn't think of this method sooner for FE.

So updates will go back and fourth between the two aforementioned games, probably more for CI honestly due to it closer to being done and easier to write since it's not meant to be taken seriously, but there will be a decent amount of progress made for FE too, hence why I gave it the spotlight today.

I am excited because this jam promotes healthy dev habits rather than grinding. I love the emphasis on working on your game just a little everyday, because progress is progress, big or small. I'm excited to see how far this propels this project closer to completion, and I am REALLY excited about writing the post-mortem documenting my entire jam experience. Whether I reach my goals or not, it's a win-win to me, because daily progress is made either way and it just means the project is that much closer to being realized, but... I have a good feeling about this.

I wish you all luck with your projects as well! Let's all work hard in bringing these games to reality, little by little, but most of all--having fun!

This is such a cool concept, love that you're making these as a birthday gift for a friend! Best of luck to you

Thank you! So far it's been going well ^^

Okay so I didn't manage to make minor updates in this thread, but I will be putting out a post-mortem very soon! I sadly was unable to reach my initial goal, but I still got THAT MUCH CLOSER and I have this jam to thank!

I will be linking to the post-mortem in this thread when it is ready ^^

Although it's belated, I will officially be posting my post-mortem on my game's page on November 7th! ^^

I'll of course be linking that here when it's up.

Post-mortem is up! Link added to the top of the original post ^^
