The graphics and ambient sound were very nice. I like the wooded hills in the back, and the parallax scrolling. It looks like you're off to a good start, but there are a few issues. First, the control is very touchy. You need to check if the key has been released rather than pressed on the jump, I believe. The one enemy I faced didn't match the rest of the aesthetics of the game, and fighting him was a bit of a pain. Also, I was told it was a gun, but then I could only pistol-whip with it. I had to finagle a bit before I figured out to use the mouse to do that... if it does fire, I don't know how. Lastly, the text system is a bit wonky, and the note in my sister's friend's house didn't show all the way to the end.
In all, a decent start. The mood and aesthetics, I think, were the best part.
EDIT: Oh, yes, and the long spiked path was very annoying. It took me about ten tries to figure out that every pit but the last one would kill me. It isn't good form to show your players a game mechanic (ie. landing in a pit will make the spikes crush you). It isn't challenging, it's just a pain in the butt.
