Feedback about the this amazing game

I'd like to start by saying that this game deserves the award it got and despite it's shortcomings is a worthwhile addition to the metagame genre. I'd love to follow and see any new additions the team work on.

That being said, I'd like to point out a few things which the team is probably aware of but that I found the most sour of all choices. Firstly there's the length of the game, I understand that this game was made for a game jam and thus couldn't be overlong but after understanding the puzzle the game can be beaten in about 3 minutes of playtime (I'm sure even less if someone speedran it). Games don't need to be long to be good and the game doesn't overstay it's welcome, but I'd really like to see a game with similar mechanics but more fleshed out puzzles and a bigger narrative.

Secondly I'd like to talk about the dialogue, this could also have been rushed due to the game jam requirements but the use of emotes and especially slang for the dialogue of a villain such as the narrator makes things less engaging for no reason IMO. In addition this game is obviously made as a labor of love to all those which is references but at the same time I feel like future releases should try and stand out on their own and cut out some of the more blatant references, which leads me to my final point.

The last thing I'd like to touch on is the issue of subtlety or the lack of subtlety to be more specific, as mentioned before I understand this might've been affected by time restrictions and a love for the meta culture which inspired the game - but I was personally almost going to overlook this game because of how prominently it advertises itself for the meta narrative. The team should try and look into the game Oneshot if they haven't already and obviously the referenced Doki Doki Literature Club, both games handle the meta narrative with a lot more subtlety and focus of their respective stories a lot more while enhancing them with the meta aspects.

The overall harshness of my post shouldn't be taken as hostile attacks on the tae teams work, I only posted this response because I liked the game and see great potential in the ideas presented and wanted to do my part in pointing out points of improvement, if the Tae team do end up reading this I hope you will heed these points and keep working on what you love - and for anyone else who has yet to play this game, don't let the negative aspects discourage you from trying out this wonderful if short game.

Hi !

Thank you for your very constructive feedback, it's very important for us.

I won't answer point per point, but know that I take note of everything you said for future games.  We made this game during a student project, and we had great limitations that led to most of the things you don't like about the game. I'm thinking about creating a new team to make a commercial version of this concept, longer, and more polished. The story and graphics are things I want to make better. For the advertisement, I know the references you quote, and yes, without the limitations it will surely be like them. Be sure to follow me on Twitter as I will share more about the possible sequel.

Thank you again !
