The queen's gaze jerked towards them, focusing on Cinder. A flash of surprise passed over her face. Then anger, hatred. Cinder flinched, wanting to run, but her legs had melted underneath her. Her retina display was drawing confused lines over her vision, she couldn't stand to keep looking at the queen's glamour. The queen's glare darkened until Cinder was sure she'd burst into tears despite her lack of tearducts. But then the queen stormed off, gaze angry as she strode back into the palace. Cinder had expected the crowd to resume their chanting, but they just walked off, like sleepwalkers. Cinder was trembling, legs aching. It seemed like she was the only one who had resisted the queen's powers-except she hadn't at first...she wasn't immune to the glamour. Not the way she was supposed to be. And worse still, the queen had seen her. She had known.
