The noisy chatter of the New Beijing market dulled to a steady drone as Cinder focused on the task in front of her, her audio interface helpfully forcing her to tune out the voices. She gritted her teeth as she struggled to unscrew the bolt keeping her foot in place, the sticky heat making her grimy t-shirt even grimier from sweat. With one last final twist of the screwdriver, the bolt came loose, and Cinder yanked her foot from it's socket, leaving it to dangle in a tangle of red and yellow wires. She bent over her toolbox and rummaged through it before finding the fuse puller, disconnecting the wires one by one in a tiny shower of sparks. Red text scrolled across the bottom of her retina display-Warning: Connection to Left foot lost-with a last yank of the wires, her foot clattered onto the concrete. The relief was instant. For four years, Cinder had been forced to limp around on the too small foot, her stepmother refusing to pay for a replacement. She reached up and groped around on her work table, pushing various parts aside to make room for the small metal foot amongst the clutter. She was just going to clean out the grime from her socket when-
THUD.
The noise of something heavy being placed on the table caused her to jolt, slamming her head on it's underside. She rose up, rubbing her head and scowling, coming face to face with an android and a startled young man.
