The penalty for getting 4th instead of 3rd is crazy. I think the point system would make more sense if making it in the hole was worth 10, then 12/15/20 for 3rd/2nd/1st, and 0 for not making it. That would also cut down on all the dillydallying since finishing out of the top three and not making it in the hole at all currently is basically the same. The 10-second countdown should also start when 3 have made it, not just when there is one player left. People in first have been abusing this by opening another window to run out the clock so that others can't catch up.
