After about two hours of playing Ronin, I felt the need to write a small review of the game.
In it's current state Ronin is a functional game with a few minor glitches or flaws. I've played a few times, and the randomization of each level is indeed very random. It reminds me of the old days of playing games like Diablo, where in one instance you'd have the most complex dungeon layout in existance, while the next, the stairs to the next level are right in front of you as you spawn. Overall an enjoyable feeling, as it indeed offers some extra replayability to the game.
As per the combat itself, the controls are a bit rough when one first starts, but I easily acclimated to the control scheme by my second run ( which was a measly 5 minutes after the first ).
The fact that you can customize your skills is also welcome, though I was mildly confused about some, as there was no explanation to their effects. Some are extremely easy to understand. IE: Evil Shuriken launches a projectile, at the cost of a bit of your health, while some like Evil Shield don't have any immediately obvious effect ( as no feedback is appreciated ).
Overall, the ambience and thematic of the game feel apropriate to the setting, and the game itself offers a challenging experience for users.
All in all, if Team Katana manages to squish some of the more annoying bugs, Ronin could stand to improve into a stronger game.
