i've had this problem with other games, so i don't know if it is specifically this game. Some people say it's because of anti-virus software stopping you from downloading games from itch.io. It fixed itself when i downloaded the itch.io application instead of using the website. i don't know if it'll work the same for you, but just wanted to help you out if i could since i had the same problem with other games.
