Is there an infinite food mode? If there isn't could you consider adding it in as a cheat because I lose almost every time because of food.
In the meantime, go for achievements, pick the extra food and extra money (after you have sufficient perks and such, avoid the gems, they are easy to get) and pick elf. slower leveling isn't that important once you get good stats.
