How to get there/parking

The event is being held at the new Typewriter Factory co-working space in The Old Mercury Building, 91-93 Macquarie St Hobart. The building has secure access, so someone will have to let you into the building. There is a door bell next to the door labelled "Factory Floor". If you press this, someone will come and let you in.

Unloading gear

There are four 15 minute parking spaces immediately outside the front door, which people should be able to use to unload and load their equipment from their vehicles.

By Bus

The venue is a 1 minute walk from the Elizabeth Bus Mall, making it very accessible by bus.

Argyle Street Car Park

Argyle Street multi-level car park is just around the corner from the site, but is only open from 7am to 10pm, and fees do apply. To the best knowledge of the organisers, Saturday all day parking totals $22 plus $4 if leaving your car overnight. However, Sunday all day parking is capped at only $4!

Just remember that if you park here you will need to get your car out by 10pm, or commit to leaving it overnight.

Others

There are also many other parking options available both on the street and in other multi-level car parking facilities. Please be aware of the local fees and conditions when choosing a park. Depending on how far you're willing to walk and whether you're willing to leave your car in an unsecured area, some of these options may or may not be cheaper than Argyle Street.

Sleeping/Showering on site

There is the option to stay on site overnight for those who wish to. We will try to set aside a relatively quiet and dim corner of the building for people to get some sleep in and will do our best to have quiet time between 12am and 8am on Sunday morning. If you plan to sleep over, you must bring your own bedding. Please be conscious that it is a shared space and try not to bring things that are overly large.

If you are uncomfortable with a more shared sleeping area please talk to a volunteer and we will do our best to make space elsewhere for you. There will be a separate women's sleeping area.

There is also one shower available on site. Please bring your own towel, there are none on site.

What to bring

You will be provided with tables, chairs, food, drink, power, and internet. Anything else you need will have to be brought with you. We suggest you label items which might be accidentally picked up by the wrong person.

Please bring your own:

  • Laptop or desktop PC (laptops are encouraged where possible!)
  • Mouse
  • Drawing instruments
  • Paper/cardboard/etc. (for physical games. There will be pens and paper on site as well)
  • Mobile devices
  • Game controllers (please label)

We do have some of the following, but bringing your own would also be helpful:

  • Power board (please label)
  • Extension cables (please label)

Internet access will be provided via Wifi. Those using desktop PCs are encouraged to obtain a Wifi card.

Internet

Wifi will be freely available throughout the jam and details will be available on-site. To use the wifi you will have to agree to the terms.

Rules

As always Tasjam has a strict Code of Conduct which can be foundhere. All participants, mentors, volunteers, organisers & observers must adhere to this. There are also terms for the site that should not be violated. You can view them here.

Tasjam does not have an official prize pool, and is the name of good fun and community spirit. In those spirits these aren't so much rules, as rough guidelines to jamming :)

  • You can start formulating your idea ahead of the event. However the secret keywords will be announced at the start of the jam
  • You can re-use existing assets from your previous projects.
  • You can use freely available and paid-for assets that you have a license to use.
  • You cannot start any concrete work on your project until the event has officially commenced.

Schedule

This is a rough outline of the schedule, so you know what's happening!

  • 8.30am site will open for attendees to arrive. Snacks available.
  • 9.30am Announcements (briefing and secret keywords!)
  • 10am Jamming! Brainstorms away!
  • 12.30/1pm Lunch
  • Recommendation: After lunch Those ideas should be ready to start producing!
  • 7pm Dinner
  • Continue work
  • 12am - 8am quiet time/sleep
  • 8am Breakfast available
  • 12.30pm Lunch
  • 6pm STOP WORK. Submission time
  • 6pm-7pm submission hour
  • 6.15pm onwards, games display. 10 minutes per team!
  • 7pm Packup - any help will be greatly appreciated!

All food and snacks over the weekend are provided and we have the following selection of food providers locked in for meals:

Saturday Lunch - Big Henry's Food Truck

Saturday Dinner - The Funky Cactus

Sunday Breakfast - Continental (Cereals/Oats/Muesli/Bread/Fruit/etc will be available)

Sunday Lunch - The Salamanca Wharf Cafe
