That sounds like the game is not having permission to get to the save file location. Try giving it permission to do that, on windows would be just running as administrator, not sure how it works on mac though.
Hmmm... I'm not too sure tbh. You could start by installing the vc_redist 2015, 2017 and 2019, then try to run the game again and see if anything changes.
