I came up with this idea a couple of weeks ago. I really, really like it. I abstained from sharing it, however, because I am scared of disapproval.
I am powering through that fear lately, so what the heck? Here's my idea I really really like, even as I know it's very very unlikely:
-
The idea is: Mrs. Slitherss keeps her usual "wrong answer prepare to die" response in the opening questionaire, and takes out the player afterward - but, she does not respond that way on the first wrong answer. Instead, Mrs. Slitherss has a three-strikes-and-you're out system
This means that the player can answer wrong, twice, and still live, inasmuch as with these two questions Mrs. Slitherss will instead give a vocal line correcting the player on the specific question (i.e., "Juice is not stupid; on the contrary [already-existent 'Juice is everything' line goes here"); followed by one any-applying addendum of the following:
1st correction: Understanding and/or forgiveness to the Student for her/his ignorance;
2nd correction: "I get the feeling you're answering wrong on purpose. This will not be tolerated." or something to that effect.
Of course, if you choose to answer wrong on purpose three times, we get the classic line and subsequent death we all know and dislike.
-
This setup, I think would allow the following advantages:
1. Exposition; by answering wrong to one or two questions, Mrs. Slitherss goes into further depth as to *why* we are wrong.
2. Immersion; giving Mrs. Slitherss' finite patience lends her a dynamic that makes her much less of a static object and more of a dynamic, reactive character than most other characters, including her current canon self;
3. Character-building for Mrs. Slitherss herself: We'd get to see her human (well, "human") side, and a semblance of patience on her part, while still keeping her as a devoutly-loyal fanatic with a negligence to tolerate the academically-challenged or delinquent. Also, some of the answer explanations could include a chance for insight into some of her own ties with the general universe. Her answer to "that sounds awful" being said about serving the Juice Queen, for example, could include her reasoning why she's loyal to the Juice Queen and why we should be too (for example, "our world was in chaos; the Juice Queen brought order. We are all less unsafe now").
