Question to source release / Mod Kit

Hi,

the Mod Kit states that it would be possible to create a "complete new game". Does that mean that it is possible to use Helium Rain as kind of engine for a complete new game without your assets? I would like to create a small SciFi based game together with a couple of friends. But it should not be anything publicly released, nor commercial or so. Just a private fun project :-)

So together with the ModKit and the source we can just start editing in UE4 and replace all assets (music, ships, objects, menus, etc.) with our own?

Thank you very much!

Hello there !

The source code on Github is licensed under MIT, so it is completely okay to reuse parts or all of it for private, free or even commercial projects. Feel absolutely free to build your own game on it, and make sure to tell me if you ever release something so that I can be happy about it :)

As to the mod kit, it should only be useful as an example for how to set up the content, since it only adds content to the existing source code on Github. Basically if you compile the source code and open it in a regular Unreal editor, you would have the mod kit, minus the game content included in the mod kit - that we ask you don't use in your own game. Since your plan is to create new assets, the easiest path is to do just that - fork the source project, add new content, looking at the mod kit for how to set it up.

Hi!

Thank you very much for the fast answer and the good explanation!

You (and your team) can be really proud on what you have achieved with Helium Rain!
I bought it a couple of weeks ago or so (on GOG though) and play it since then whenever I have time - and it is really fun! :-)

Great game + Linux support + opening the source for the community under a such liberate license = just awesome!

Thanks again!
