(Harsher) Downsides for Draginslayer?

In my opinion, as of 0.1.8, Draginslayer has so much power, *and* it has so relatively little in the way of trade-offs, it is essentially game-breaking.

The relative heft and resultant slowness of Draginslayer is... noticeable, at any rate; however in my opinion it's still so light it doesn't quite make it a fair weapon, even with knowing of what you have to do to acquire it.

I would like to place a request to please consider giving the Draginslayer more significant trade-offs, so that other weapons are still worth considering after it becomes available. The two that come to mind for me are:

1. Simply making it heavier, so that it's slower than it currently is; and/or

2. Now that weapons can have randomized stat-changes: Attachment of negative stat-changes, as opposed to the positive that other weapons can benefit from. Speed and flight in particular seem like they'd be both sensible in-world (big, heavy metal plank = slower walk and greater pull down out of the air) and as balancing checks in gameplay.

Hah, you would have hated the old Draginslayer. It was basically a dev weapon that could insta-kill anything within monster level 100, and in the very early versions of the game you could get it as soon as you upgraded your flight skill to level 5 or so.

Your proposals aren't bad - the Draginslayer is pretty massive, and it should feel hefty in more ways than one - but as with any "meta" weapon developers have to tread carefully; generally speaking, players prefer that other things be buffed as opposed to having a popular meta/weapon getting nerfed (unless it's hilariously overpowered, like it used to be prior to V0.1.6).  The more conservative/cautious option would be  the addition/buffing of other weapons to help with balance by giving other viable alternatives around the point where you fight/after you fight Slitherss. That's obviously more work, though, and there's a lot of other stuff to develop, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see what Fish has to say about it.

Thank you for your response, JuiceFiend.

I've been with Juice Galaxy when it was still "World", since 0.0.4. I remember using the Draginslayer back then, getting tired of it soon after I got my brief power rush, because of how unduly potent it is. I put it down and didn't much pick it up for a long time after that.

I admit I was out of it for a brief time, during which 0.1.6 dropped, and presumably entails this nerf you speak of. If what you say is true then I am relieved Fishlicka took a step to nerf it.

Even so, fast-forward to now and I've picked it up and given it a couple of swings in 0.1.8, and it still seems too fast to be either immersive or fair - even keeping in mind the game's generally silly and logic-optional setting. I ordinarily agree with you on "buffing, not nerfing". However, to buff every other weapon would require upscaling the difficulty of almost every other enemy, including bosses, which would be a lot of work after Fishlicka's already done so much making each of those guys.

Editing Draginslayer itself seems the far more feasible task.

the old draginslayer has 100 damage as the base damage stat so...yeah.

Besides its a worthy reward after defeating Slithers. Slithers in my opinion is an optional boss considering what you need to do to fight her, so basically the draginslayer is sorta optional.

Slithers could also be buffed so that its an even more worthy reward.

I can agree with you here. In my opinion, Mrs. Slitherss deserves to be more of a threat to the player. As of 0.1.8, you can take her out in one shot with any hand-to-hand weapon if you zoom in fast enough while she's monologuing, or just play keepaway and spam pineapple projectiles at her, and expect to live through it..

Granted I'm all for difficult bosses being possible to defeat easily as a reward for skillful use of a given game's mechanics; however, Mrs. Slitherss is so easy it hardly feels satisfying.

Pertinent to the topic I have to admit; The ease with which Mrs. Slitherss' can be defeated is much ado with why I dislike the Draginslayer so much. Making Mrs. Slitherss prospectively a true force to be reckoned that can even keep maxed-out and skillful players on their toes would at least make the OP slab of metal feel slightly less undeserved.

also a couple of people are complaining the fact that the draginslayer got nerfed back when V0.1.6 got released (the update where it gets nerfed) lol
