I enjoyed both the humor and the eldritch terror engendered by giving serious consideration to how, exactly, these SHMUPs exist at all. Despite being more of a prologue than anything else, it feels like a solid introduction to this intriguing and more-than-a-little-disturbing world, and I appreciate how the MC's sheer inability to comprehend... anything that's happening to him creates tension without overplaying it in the way a lot of horror/deconstructionist VNs often do. I'm looking forward to more retro arcade references and spending more time at Shmuppington Academy, which at first glance sounds like a school for something else entirely, and I'm already anticipating poor, friendly B-Type's horrific death.
