I enjoyed how you wove so many different ideas about 'havens' - shelter, community, family, and refuge - into the narrative in different ways. I appreciated as well the focus on the idea of legacy with the little flash-forwards to the future impact of the Carver's actions, although I feel like leaving out the first one, about the Priestess in battle, would have helped the sense of poignancy and deepened the emotional impact of the parting. In any case a very rich story with a lot of depth and characterization!
