how do I beat tom at choosing the right numbe
You have to befriend the security guard at the gates, then he tells you Tom's numbers with his hands (2,5,6)
Minor hilarious note, when you just press enter without putting in a number, he says something like "is your number ?"and you reply with "Yes, how did you know my number was ?"
It's like if the value <null> were a real number.
