I have the same opinion as you, but that would be SUPER IMPOSSIBLE! If that was their plan, they would modify a copy of among us on pc or Android and make it available for work/school chromebooks(or whatever they use). But the reason why I say “SUPER IMPOSSIBLE” is because some work places and the education system blocked off Google Play Store in some locations. But that part about it being paid or free on work/school hardware? I don’t have any idea about that yet.
