This appears to be the case for me as well. Episode 1 plays the intro sequence, drops you onto the hub menu, and the only thing you can do is navigate menus or progress the day counter. This is on the current 10.04 version. No errors in the log.
so look I had the same problem its kinda tricky since it gives you no directions on what to do but from what I remember you go to the character tab and click on the main character or the ai and click the button with 3 lines I think to go to quest and you start it just check each persons quest if you want to make progress if this isnt right forgive me my memory is kinda hazy since its been a while since I played I'm just waiting on episode 11 rn
