hey, you going to make it also LGBT like choosing dare for two men or two girls? because i really like it but i'm gay xD
Hey, great question. I answered it on patreon but skipped that part on itch.io sorry.
So thanks for the opportunity to clarify: I would love to make different versions of the game to include all sexualities (I even thought of a long-distance version that could be played via webcam or a solo version where you play against some animated character). The thing is that it is quite a lot of work to come up with original and enjoyable dares and I want everything I add to be very polished. So for now I'm more focused on improving the regular version (I have a lot of ideas) but in the future I hope to add some LGBT modes (Tho I might need some help to come up with enough dares!).
Thanks for letting me know about your interest, if anyone else reads this and is in the same situation please let me know, I might push the LGBT versions higher in my priority list if there's high demand!
Hey, thanks for the interest !
Work on the game has slowed down because of other projects, but yeah I really want to finish that long-distance version. I have so many ideas, I think it has potential. I'll take time to work on it in the coming days and see what I can come up with.
Good question about adding dares. It is not possible in the game itself, but I'll explain a way to edit dares here :
-In the game folder, open the local_en file (json) with the notepad.
- This contains all the text used in the game, you can edit the text between "" for each dare. (I suggest saving a copy of the original file in case you make a change that could cause errors)
-Simply save the file and launch the game with the updated list.
A few points to know for editing dares :
tx_m_dareXX are the males dares, tx_f_dareXX are the female ones. One is selected at random each round.
The number of dares for each participant is hard-codded in the game, don't try to add (or remove) extra lines like "tx_m_dare43" , you can only change the text of current dares. (that's actually a good idea for a change in a future update)
Use %M and %F to show the names of the left and right players (I call them left and right because... they're not necessarily Female and Male anymore. ;)). The game only check and replace one %M and %F per line (which means: don't use the player name more than once per dare)
Dares 0 to 8 triggers special events in game (those are the dares that last several rounds or add diamonds to players) I suggest not editing those.
Now, writing about all this made me realise, you could technically duplicate the local_en file, give it another 2 letters code (let's say lg, so you'd have a local_lg file), change the value for "local_code" and "tx_current_language" lines at the top (for our exemple to "lg" and "LGBT" respectively) and then edit a list of custom dares.
To use this list in your game you would simply select it with the language selector on the main menu. (So you'd have English, Français, and LGBT as valid options).
Okay I just wanted to give a quick reply and I feel like it got out of control ^^. Apologies for any mistakes I could have make, it's quite late here and I might be wrong about some stuff.
If you come up with custom dares I'd be extremely interested in seeing those, and maybe I could potentially add them in a futur update. (especially LGBT ones, I could use some inspiration for a future version, who knows)
EDIT : Also as always, any suggestion is welcome.
I'm really passionate and love talking about my projects. And hearing what others have in mind is a great source of insipiration.
Your message actually made me think and now I consider changing the language selector into a dare-list selector, which is acuatlly the easiest and most customizable way to add new game variations.
So... yeah, new version.
Hopefully no bugs, it could use more testing but it seemed stable.
Can now add or remove dares through the game files, and make complete custom lists of dares.
Sets the foundation for a new game mode, hopefully ready in a couple weeks.
I'm so happy but I need some sleep now ^^
Wow, thanks for the quick response!
No worries about it getting out of control, I always like reading stuff like that anyway, and it usually ends up being really helpful (like the language selector thingy)
Really excited to keep up with the updates for this, no regrets about purchasing whatsoever :)
Edit: Where can I access the patreon for this game and/or your game(s)?
Edit #2: This is just a recommendation that may or may not be really simple, but a full-screen mode or a method to change the resolution would be helpful. (again, I don't do uh... any coding. So I have no idea if this is an easy thing to do or not.)
Edit #3 (I'm sorry): When one party decides to decline their dare, the wrong party is punished. Ex. Man declines dare, he's meant to lose a diamond and the Women is meant to gain one, where actually, the reverse happens. Unless, the person declining the dare isn't actually the person receiving it, and is instead the opposite party.
I'm not sure if that made any sense...
Oh great point, I'm definitely adding a window resize option in the next update.
I couldn't replicate the #3 problem. I know this decline situation is pretty confusing even for myself ^^. Maybe I should make it more straight-forward. Let me see if it checks out :
-When you reroll a dare you lose a diamond (can't get lower than 0, so partner gets one if you are at 0)
-If you win the coin toss, but you don't want your partner to do the dare they chose, you are allowed to decline. But you then have to give one diamond to your partner (so you lose 1 and they get 1, or they get 2 if you're at 0).
The system makes sure you don't have to do or receive something you are not comfortable with but you have to pay in diamond to decline. I originally wasn't sure if it was the best option to make the winner have to pay to decline (they're the winner after all) but it somehow make it possible to get diamonds even if you're stuck at 0 and adds a bit of incertitude (like "will he decline ? I'm sure I dont have to reroll, he will decline") which I guess can add some laughs.
From what you describe it seems we agree this is the intended behavior and when I tested, it seemed to work. Press decline on the left -> lose diamond on the left. Maybe there's a bug in some specific conditions.
About patreon, it was originally planned to have a patreon with a discord access to maybe create a small community, where people could share stories of their games or give feedback and suggestions. Yeah basically add some community aspect to the project.
But I felt like it was too early, I'll first let the community form itself and see if enough people are interested in the project, then at this point set up a place to exchange.
Thank you very much for your support ! It means a lot. And don't be sorry, I really thrive on feedback so feel free to keep it coming !
